Information About Home Microdermabrasion Kits

Less invasive than other dermatological procedures, microdermabrasion has gained popularity in medical practices and day spas. Now home microdermabrasion kits are available for those seeking a cheaper option to clinical treatments.

Effects of this treatment:

Microdermabrasion is a painless procedure in which fine particles are used to smooth the skin. This is achieved by scrubbing away the stratum corneum, the very top layer of skin. This layer, known as the stratum corneum, is the top layer of dead skin cells that act as a barrier between the lower layers of skin and the outside world.

What are the benefits of this treatment?

Fine creases and wrinkles often appear in the stratum corneum, and microdermabrasion helps to clear these away. People who use this treatment option report that they have younger looking skin and fewer wrinkles. It can also help to remove sun-damaged skin, remove or lessen the appearance of scars and dark spots.

Another way in which the product works is by stimulating skin regrowth. By gently sanding away the uppermost layer of skin, the body is essentially ticked into thinking that the skin has been damaged, and works hard to accelerate the production of healthy skin cells. It is also said to improve collagen production, although there is little evidence to support this view.

Microdermabrasion is suitable for use on all skin tones and types, making it more universally accessible. It also has the fewest side effects of any dermatological procedure.

Why people choose a home microdermabrasion kit:

At $25-$50 for each kit, home microdermabrasion is by far the cheaper option than professional treatments, which start at $100 per treatment. The kits are less powerful, but are effective in maintaining the results of clinical microdermabrasion. They are quite safe to use and is not a difficult procedure to perform.

Tips on how to use your home kit:

The first thing to do when you get your home microdermabrasion kit is to read all the instructions, and make sure that you know what all of the products in the kit are used for. Always keep instructions and packaging for future reference.

Before you start the treatment, perform a patch test on a small area of skin. This might be on your forehead, chin, or just behind your ear. This is an important step, as an allergic reaction may cause visible effects that can last days or even weeks. Wait twenty-four hours after the patch test before proceeding with the treatment.

Some kits will leave you skin red and a bit sensitive for a few hours, so it is best to use the treatment in the evening. If you use it before you evening shower you can wash away any particles that may be harder to rinse off.

1.The bathroom is probably the best place to perform the treatment, as you need to be in a clean space with plenty of light, a mirror and access to heated running water.

2.Cleanse your face, or whatever area you are planning to use microdermabrasion on (such as neck, arms or hands) with your usual facial cleanser, or one that is included in the kit. Rinse your face well with warm water once you have cleaned it.

3.The kit may come with a sponge or applicator, but if not then just use your fingers. Check the instructions to see if your face should be completely dry, or a little damp before applying the cream. Apply the microdermabrasion cream to your face and gently massage into the skin. Do not focus on any one area for too long. Damage can occur even if you can’t feel it, leaving your skin irritated.

4.Wash away the crystals thoroughly. If you experience difficulty washing them off, take a shower and keep rinsing.

5.Pat your face dry afterwards.

6.Moisturize your face, either with the nourishing cream that comes in the kit or with your own moisturizer.

Remember: Always check the warnings before use.
