Buy your specs online for the best cost

I don’t know about you, but I can’t believe how much it costs to get my specs replaced. I’m not sure if it’s a bit of a scam or what, but I used to go to an eye doctor who would always tweak my prescription – just to get my sight perfect. That sounded great, except that it cost me a lot of hard cash. I then learnt that you can actually get the same specs that he was recommending for me, but at a much lower cost.

Opticians need to offset the relatively cheap service they offer, in terms of checking people’s visual acuity, with the retail arm of their outfit. When your eye doctor wants to sell you some specs, typically, they will suggest a range of modifications to your specs, such as extra thin lenses, protection against reflections and extra lightweight frames, that leave you with a huge bill to pay. Their business model has been further hit by the introduction of internet based opticians, who can offer you the same specs as the high street opticians, but (because they don’t have to pay for shop rentals) at a much lower cost.

You will need to go to a standard eye doctor in any case to have your eyes properly checked out. Realise that you have entered into a trasaction with your eye doctor to assess your visual acuity in return for your cash. They won’t tell you this, but you can and should stop the transaction after this step. Ask them for a printed version of your prescription and then walk out of the door.

When you get home, fire up the computer and get online. There are many sets of prescription spectacles frames offered at the various online optical stores that you will find on google. Select your desired set of frames and try to work out how big you want them to be. You can measure your pupillary distance if you want to get really technical.

After you have decided on your frames, step 3 is to use the lens prescription details you got in step 1 to order your custom made prescription specs. Take care with the lens prescription details so that you are guaranteed to get your specific requirements met. You could even phone them up to get them to talk you through, if you want.

This is a real no brainer. The best way of reducing your financial outgoings is to look for ways where you can get the same service or goods that you currently pay for, but at a lower cost. This is one of those opportunities where you can keep your cash in your pocket and not drop your standards. You can literally get the specs of your choice at half the cost of the high street offers.
